Understanding the charge card structure
The Spark Cash Plus is a charge card, not a revolving credit card. This distinction has practical consequences: the full statement balance is due each month, and Capital One does not offer a minimum payment option or allow balances to carry forward and accrue interest. In exchange for this requirement, the card has no preset spending limit. Capital One evaluates each transaction dynamically based on the business's spending history and payment behavior, allowing purchasing power to scale with the business rather than being capped at a fixed credit line.
Annual fee and spend-based refund
$150 annual fee refund threshold
If total annual purchases reach $150,000 or more in a calendar year, Capital One refunds the $150 annual fee. Businesses spending at or above $150,000 annually effectively pay $0 for the card. Verify the calendar year definition and refund timing in the current Capital One terms.
$200 annual cash bonus at $200,000
When total annual purchases reach $200,000 or more, Capital One awards a $200 cash bonus. This bonus is earned annually — it is not a one-time welcome offer. At $200,000 in spend, the $200 bonus represents an additional 0.1% effective return on top of the base 2% cash back rate, bringing the effective rate to approximately 2.1% at that spend level.
Effective cost at various spend levels
Below $150,000 annual spend: $150 fee applies. At $150,000+: fee refunded, effective fee $0. At $200,000+: fee refunded plus $200 bonus received. The card's value proposition improves substantially as business spend scales above $150,000 per year.
Employee cards
Free employee cards
Employee cards can be added to the Spark Cash Plus account at no additional cost. There is no per-card fee for employee card issuance.
Employee earn rate
Each employee card earns 2% cash back on all purchases. The cash back flows back to the primary business account and counts toward the business's total for annual fee refund and $200 bonus thresholds.
Spend controls
Capital One offers spending controls for employee cards. Verify the current set of available controls — including per-transaction limits and category restrictions — in the Capital One business account management tools.

Insurance and protections
The Spark Cash Plus includes business-focused Mastercard benefits and Capital One-specific protections. Verify coverage limits and eligibility conditions in the official Capital One benefit guide for business cards.
What is not included
The Spark Cash Plus does not include transferable miles, airport lounge access, travel credits, or trip delay and cancellation insurance. Cash back cannot be transferred to airline or hotel loyalty partners. The card is a charge card — carrying a balance is not permitted. If your business needs a revolving credit line, compare with other Capital One business credit cards.
Fit checklist
- Your business has high monthly spend and can pay the balance in full each month — the charge card structure is a firm requirement, not optional.
- Annual business spend is at or approaching $150,000, at which point the $150 annual fee is refunded and the card costs nothing to hold.
- Annual business spend reaches or exceeds $200,000, enabling the $200 annual cash bonus on top of the fee refund.
- You want a single flat-rate business card that earns 2% on all purchases without managing categories or tracking rotating offers.
- You need to issue employee cards at no additional cost and want all employee spending to earn 2% cash back pooled to the primary account.
