What the card is built around
The Chase Sapphire Reserve is built for frequent travelers who book through Chase Travel, value airport lounge access, and can use a large portfolio of statement credits naturally. Its 8x earning on Chase Travel portal bookings is among the highest portal rates available on any travel card, and its 4x rate on direct airline and hotel bookings means earning is strong even outside the portal.
The $795 fee is the defining challenge. The credits are numerous — travel, dining, hotels, entertainment, streaming, rideshare, fitness — but each has restrictions. The card produces clear value for someone who books travel regularly and will use the $300 general travel credit and the $300 dining credit with minimal friction. It is harder to justify for someone who would extract only a few of the credits.
Portal and direct earning
8x
Chase Travel portal
Earn 8 Ultimate Rewards points per dollar on flights, hotels, car rentals, cruises, and activities booked through Chase Travel. This is the highest earning rate on the card and makes the portal compelling for travel bookings where portal and direct pricing are competitive.
4x
Direct airline and hotel bookings
Earn 4 points per dollar when booking directly with airlines or hotels — useful for stays where loyalty program benefits (free breakfast, upgrades, elite credit) require a direct booking rather than a portal booking.
3x
Dining worldwide
Earn 3 points per dollar at restaurants globally, including eligible delivery services. No cap on the 3x dining rate.
10x
Lyft and Peloton
Earn 10 points per dollar on Lyft rides (through September 30, 2027) and on eligible Peloton equipment and accessories (up to 50,000 bonus points total). These are promotional rates with stated end dates or caps.
Multiplier details that matter
8x vs. 4x: when to use each
The 8x rate through Chase Travel offers more points, but portal bookings may not earn loyalty status credits and may not include elite benefits like room upgrades or free breakfast at hotels. If a direct booking at 4x gives you $50–$100 in elite benefits, the difference may favor booking direct — especially for hotel stays.
Dining at 3x
The 3x dining rate is global and uncapped. It applies to restaurants worldwide including eligible delivery platforms. It does not apply to groceries, superstores with food sections, or in-transit food purchases at airports or transit hubs, which are generally coded differently by merchants.
Lyft and Peloton limits
The 10x Lyft rate runs through September 30, 2027. The 10x Peloton rate applies to hardware and accessories, capped at 50,000 bonus points total. Neither rate extends indefinitely; verify current terms with Chase.
Statement credits
The Reserve carries an extensive credit portfolio. Credits have partner restrictions, timing rules, booking path requirements, and enrollment steps. Do not sum the face values and subtract from $795 automatically — value each credit at what it replaces in spending you would have made regardless of the card.

Practical read
$300 Annual Travel Credit
Up to $300 in statement credits per anniversary year for travel purchases. Chase's definition of travel is broad and includes airlines, hotels, car rentals, transit, rideshare, tolls, and parking.
The broadest and easiest credit to use. Most cardholders who travel at all will hit this credit without effort.
$500 The Edit Hotel Credits
Up to $500 per year (max $250 per transaction) in automatic statement credits for prepaid bookings at select Chase Travel hotels in The Edit collection.
Requires booking through Chase Travel's curated Edit collection. Compare pricing and amenities against direct booking rates before committing to a prepaid stay.
$250 Select Chase Travel Hotel Credits
Up to $250 per year for stays at specific partner hotel chains through Chase Travel, including IHG, Montage, Pendry, Omni, Virgin Hotels, Minor Hotels, and Pan Pacific.
Partner-restricted. Useful if you already stay at these brands. Stacks with The Edit credits only if the specific hotel qualifies under both programs — verify with Chase.
$300 Dining Credit (Exclusive Tables)
Up to $300 per year ($150 from January through June, $150 from July through December) at restaurants participating in the Sapphire Reserve Exclusive Tables program.
Semiannual structure means missing one period forfeits up to $150. Exclusive Tables is a curated Chase restaurant program — verify your preferred restaurants participate before counting on this credit.
$300 DoorDash / DashPass
Complimentary DashPass membership plus up to $300 per year in DoorDash promo credits. DashPass value is approximately $120/year.
Most accessible for regular DoorDash users. Promo credits typically apply to eligible orders above a minimum threshold.

Time-limited benefit. Useful in markets where Lyft operates. Verify current terms and expiration with Chase.

Useful only for active Peloton subscribers. Verify eligible membership types with Chase.
$300 StubHub / viagogo

High breakage risk unless you regularly buy event tickets through StubHub. Pricing on secondary ticket markets can be significantly above face value.
$288 Apple TV+ and Apple Music
Complimentary Apple TV+ and Apple Music subscriptions through June 22, 2027. Combined value approximately $288 at current Apple pricing.
Time-limited benefit. Overlap with a Sapphire Preferred Apple TV+ benefit is possible if holding both cards — verify terms with Chase to avoid duplication issues.
$120 Global Entry / TSA PreCheck / NEXUS
Up to $120 in statement credit every four years for the application fee for Global Entry, TSA PreCheck, or NEXUS when charged to the card.
Global Entry ($120) covers the full credit and includes TSA PreCheck. Easy to extract if you haven't recently applied.
Lounge access
The Sapphire Reserve includes three lounge programs. Chase Sapphire Lounges are Chase's proprietary airport lounges, accessible to the primary cardholder with up to two complimentary guests. Priority Pass gives access to more than 1,300 lounges in airports worldwide through a separate membership activated through the card. Select Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounges are also accessible. Guest policies, participating locations, and terms are subject to change by each program.
Chase Sapphire Lounges
Chase's proprietary lounges offer a premium experience at select airports. Up to two guests per visit are complimentary. Additional guests may be charged a fee. Location availability expands over time; verify current airports on Chase's lounge page.
Priority Pass
Priority Pass membership through the Reserve is the Unlimited tier, granting access to 1,300+ participating lounges globally. Some Priority Pass restaurants and airport clubs have their own guest fees. A few lounges impose visit limits or charge fees at peak times.
Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounges
Cardholders can access select Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounges when traveling on a same-day Air Canada or Star Alliance flight. Eligibility and specific lounge locations are governed by Air Canada's terms, which may differ from other programs.
Transfer partners
The Sapphire Reserve transfers Ultimate Rewards points to the same 14 airline and hotel partners as the Preferred, with one key difference: Hyatt transfers remain at 1:1 for Reserve cardholders. This is now a meaningful distinction — Preferred and Ink Business Preferred cardholders face a 4:3 ratio for Hyatt, making the Reserve the better product for cardholders who use Hyatt award nights frequently.

Fit checklist
- You book travel frequently enough to use the $300 general travel credit and at least one hotel credit naturally, without creating spend you would not otherwise make.
- You want 1:1 Hyatt transfers, which are now exclusive to Sapphire Reserve among Chase's consumer card lineup.
- You will use airport lounge access regularly and value having both Chase Sapphire Lounges and Priority Pass in the same card.
- You can extract value from the dining (Exclusive Tables), DoorDash, and entertainment credits without significant effort or forced spend.
- You want Chase's premium protection package — lower trip-delay threshold (6 hours vs. 12 for Preferred), higher auto rental coverage ($75k vs. $60k), and broader purchase and return protections.
