Annual free night certificate
Certificate value
Each account anniversary year, you receive one free night certificate valid at Marriott Bonvoy properties with redemption rates of up to 35,000 points per night. Marriott has a wide range of properties at or below this level — including Courtyard, Fairfield, Aloft, AC Hotels, and select Westin and Sheraton locations in moderate markets.
Topping up
You can add up to 15,000 of your own Bonvoy points to a free night certificate, enabling access to properties up to 50,000 points per night. This is particularly useful for slightly higher-category properties in premium destinations. The top-up must be applied at time of redemption.
Certificate expiration
Free night certificates are typically issued within approximately 8 weeks of your account anniversary and expire 12 months from issuance. Plan to use the certificate before it expires; expired certificates are not reinstated by Chase or Marriott.
Elite status and night credits
Protections and coverage
This card is a fit if…
- You stay at Marriott Bonvoy properties frequently and want to earn points directly on stays while maintaining automatic Silver Elite status.
- The annual free night certificate (up to 35,000 points, top-uppable to 50,000) covers properties you'd actually stay at — making the $95 fee straightforward to justify.
- Your everyday spending in grocery stores, gas stations, or restaurants is significant enough for the 3x (up to $6,000/year) to add meaningful earning.
- You're within reach of Gold Elite by combining the 15 night credits from the card with actual stays.
