What this card is built around

The Chase Ink Business Preferred is the only Ink card that earns points directly transferable to airline and hotel partners — the same 14 partners available on the consumer Sapphire cards. This makes it the essential anchor card for businesses building a multi-card Ink stack: without it (or a Sapphire card), Ink Cash and Ink Unlimited rewards are limited to cash back at 1 cent per point.

At $95 per year, the Preferred earns 3x on four high-value business categories — travel, shipping, internet/cable/phone services, and digital advertising on social media and search engines — combined up to $150,000 per year. For businesses running significant ad spend on Google or Meta, the 3x on advertising alone can generate enormous UR balances. The cell phone protection benefit is also notably strong: covering business phones with up to $1,000 per claim when the bill is paid through the card.

The 3x rate applies to up to $150,000 in combined purchases per anniversary year across all four 3x categories. After $150,000, all purchases earn 1x.

Transfer partners

Ink Business Preferred earns directly transferable Ultimate Rewards points to the same 14 partners available on the Sapphire cards. Note that World of Hyatt transfers at 1:1 from Ink Preferred, unlike the Sapphire Preferred which changed to 4:3 for new cardholders in June 2026.

FAQ

Chase Ink Business Preferred questions.

What are the 3x bonus categories on Ink Business Preferred?

Travel, shipping purchases, internet/cable/phone services, and social media site and search engine advertising — combined up to $150,000 per anniversary year. After $150,000, all earn 1x. The advertising category is particularly powerful for digital businesses spending on Google Ads, Meta Ads, or LinkedIn Ads.

Does Ink Business Preferred earn transferable Ultimate Rewards points?

Yes — directly. Ink Preferred earns UR points transferable to the same 14 airline and hotel partners as the Sapphire cards, including United, Hyatt, Aeroplan, Flying Blue, and others. This distinguishes it from Ink Cash and Ink Unlimited which earn cash back, not transferable points.

Can I transfer Ink Cash and Ink Unlimited earnings through Ink Business Preferred?

Yes. With Ink Preferred (or a Sapphire) in the same Chase login as Ink Cash and Ink Unlimited, you can combine all three cards' rewards. The Ink Cash and Ink Unlimited cash back converts to transferable UR points via the Ink Preferred account. This is the core of the Ink multi-card stack strategy.

What is the $150,000 annual spending cap on 3x categories?

The 3x rate applies to up to $150,000 combined across all four 3x categories per anniversary year — travel, shipping, internet/phone, and advertising together. After $150,000, all earn 1x. Most small businesses won't reach this threshold; high-spend digital agencies are most likely to approach it.

Does Ink Business Preferred have cell phone protection?

Yes. Pay your business cell phone bill with the Ink Preferred and eligible phones are covered for damage or theft — up to $1,000 per claim with a $100 deductible, maximum 3 claims per 12 months. This can cover multiple employee phones on a business plan.
